Hi, I'm Tim. I build URLtoText.

URLtoText started in mid-2024 as a small internal tool. I was running another product that relied on web scraping, and I built a simple page where our customers could paste in a URL and see exactly what text we pulled from it.

Then something I didn't expect happened: people who had never heard of that other product started using the tool on their own. I hadn't promoted it at all, but the traffic kept growing. So I decided to turn it into a real product.

Together with a developer on my team, I built it out into what it is today: a free converter anyone can use without signing up, plus a paid API, JavaScript rendering for modern sites, proxies for pages that block scrapers, custom AI prompts, YouTube transcripts, and PDF to text. When we launched the API on Product Hunt in March 2025, it finished #7 Product of the Day.

Why it exists

AI tools are only as good as the text you give them. Most web pages are full of menus, ads, cookie banners, and scripts that get in the way. URLtoText strips all of that out and gives you the content itself, as clean text, Markdown, or HTML, ready to paste into ChatGPT or Claude or to feed into your own app.

What I care about

  • It should just work. Paste a URL, get clean text. One field in the web tool, one endpoint in the API.
  • A useful free tool. You can convert pages without creating an account.
  • Simple, fair pricing. You only pay extra for the heavier options on the pages that need them.
  • Real support. I read every message. Use the chat on this site or email support@urltotext.com.
