What's hidden in a photo
AI labels
ChatGPT, Gemini, Adobe Firefly, Microsoft and others label their images with Content Credentials or an IPTC tag. Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI leave their settings in the file. We read all of them.
Location and camera
Photos from phones often carry the exact GPS location, the phone model and the time they were taken. See it all, then remove it before you share.
No upload, no quality loss
Everything happens in your browser. JPG, PNG and WebP files are cleaned without re-compressing, so the picture is exactly the same.

Image Metadata Remover FAQ
How can I tell if an image is AI-generated? +
Check its labels. ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Adobe Firefly, Microsoft and others add Content Credentials (C2PA) or an IPTC "digital source type" to the images they make, and Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI save their settings in the file. Choose the image here and we show any label we find, and who made it.
If no AI label is found, is the photo real? +
Not necessarily. Most social networks and messaging apps remove these labels when you upload, screenshots drop them, and some AI tools never add them. A label is strong evidence of AI; no label proves nothing either way.
Do you verify Content Credentials? +
We read what the credentials say (the tool that made the image and whether it used AI), but we don't check the cryptographic signature. For a full verification, use the Content Credentials site at contentcredentials.org/verify.
Is my image uploaded? +
No. Images are read and cleaned in your browser, so they never leave your device.
What metadata is removed? +
Everything that isn't the picture: GPS location, camera and lens, serial numbers, dates, software, author and copyright, XMP, IPTC, comments and Content Credentials. We keep only the colour profile, so colours look the same, and the rotation, so phone photos stay the right way up.
Does removing metadata lower the quality? +
Not for JPG, PNG and WebP: the image data is copied as it is, without re-compressing. HEIC, AVIF, GIF and TIFF files are saved again as JPG or PNG.
Does it remove AI watermarks? +
No. It removes metadata, including Content Credentials, but invisible watermarks such as Google's SynthID are part of the picture itself and stay in. Please be open about images made with AI.
