SRT to Text FAQ

Is this subtitle to text converter free? +

Yes. Convert as many SRT, VTT and other subtitle files as you like, with no sign-up and no limits.

Is my file uploaded? +

No. The file is read and converted in your browser, so it never leaves your device.

Which subtitle formats work? +

SRT, WebVTT (.vtt), YouTube's SBV, Advanced SubStation (.ass and .ssa) and TTML/DFXP (.ttml, .dfxp, .xml). The format is detected from the file, so the extension doesn't matter.

What does it remove? +

The line numbers, timestamps and formatting tags. Optionally also sound cues like [Music] or (laughs) and speaker labels.

Why do YouTube captions repeat every line? +

YouTube's automatic captions show each line twice as they scroll. Keep "Remove repeated lines" ticked and each line appears once.

Can I keep the timestamps? +

Yes. Pick "Text with timestamps" for a transcript with the time of each line, or save the captions as SRT or VTT to convert between the two formats.

I don't have a subtitle file. Can I get one from a video? +

Yes. Use our Subtitle Generator: upload a video or paste a link and it makes SRT and VTT captions for you.
