Is this text to speech free? +

Yes, and unlimited for text you type or paste. The voices are the ones built into your device, so nothing is sent to a server.

Which voices can I use? +

Every voice your device has, in every language it supports. Phones, Macs and Windows PCs each come with natural-sounding voices; Chrome adds Google voices. Pick one from the Voice menu.

Can it read a web page aloud? +

Yes. Switch to "From a web page", paste the address, and we pull out the article text (without menus and ads) and read it to you.

Can I change the speed? +

Yes, from half speed to double speed, and the pitch too. Changes apply from the next sentence.

Can I download the audio as an MP3? +

Not yet. Your browser's voices can play out loud but don't let websites save the sound. Tell us in the chat if you need MP3 downloads.

Does it work on iPhone and Android? +

Yes. Tap Play to start; phones only allow speech after a tap. On iPhone, turn off silent mode if you hear nothing.
